True Stories: Lip Licking

Just as adults have chapped lips, children can also have problems with dry, painful lips. We have all seen children with the red ring around their lips. That red ring comes from children repeatedly licking their lips. In an effort to keep their lips moist, they lick them over and over. This tends to make the problem worse by producing a red, dry, painful ring around their lips. No matter what you try, it just doesn’t seem to go away including Vaseline and regular lip balms.

The patient seen here no longer suffers from a red ring thanks to CortiBalm. With Dr. Dan’s CortiBalm, those red lips were gone in just 2 to 3 days. Within 24 hours, CortiBalm begins to relieve the pain, itching and redness, reducing the need to repeatedly lick your lips. Then CortiBalm keeps on working to help moisten and heal the skin, solving the problem of the red ring from lip licking.

Review Roundup

This week we’ve rounded up some of our favorite reviews from across the web from doctors, patients, and others who are tired of suffering from chapped lips.

My Lips Are Cracked During Accutane Treatments, Which Lip Balms Would be Best?

“Accutane can be excessively drying (which is the point!), but can lead to dryness of the nose and lips, particularly. Dr. Dan’s Cortibalm is the best for the lips because it contains hydrocortisone, which helps soothe, heal, and take away redness. You can find it online or your pharmacy can order it for you. It should cost about $5-$8 for a stick. Aquaphor is great too, but isn’t as easy to…” Read more

“My favorites are Dr. Dan’s Cortibalm (which has Hydrocortisone) for calming inflammation in combination with Natural Ice Sport spf 30 lip balm (which contains aloe and vitamins A, D & E). Accutane causes sun sensitivity, so we recommend any SPF 15 or higher lip balm daily as needed.

If excessive dryness, redness and cracking are present or persist, we recommend a topical…” Read more

Makeup Alley: Dr. Dan’s CortiBalm

“I joined this website specifically to sing the praises of this product! This lip balm is truly a miracle for me!!! I suffered from eczema and dry lips that constantly itch, peel and burn! I may have one good day in a long while, where my lips are well-behaved, but as soon as I dared put on any lipstick or get foundation near my lips, I would pay penance with a major breakout. Numerous research into why I was suffering this badly has lead nowhere. I’ve tried everything from La Mer to plain old Blistex, to no avail. If you can name a brand or product, I can tell you that I’ve already tried it! My situation was so bad, I wouldn’t leave the house without some sort of a lip balm for fear of my lips throwing a tantrum. Then I discovered the Dr. Dan’s Cortibalm and my life changed.” Read more

“This is the absolute BEST lip balm I have ever tried, and I’ve tried them all. It does what it says. I’ve tried EVERYTHING and nothing works for my dry lips. If you visit their website and send a self addressed stamped envelope they will send you a sample to try.” Read more

Adam’s Story: Coping with OCD

This week’s true story comes from Adam in Connecticut, winner of our Before and After contest. Thanks Adam!

Dear Dr. Dan’s,

I have obsessive compulsive disorder and obsessive skin picking also known as dermatillomania where I have a compulsion of picking at and biting at my lips due to stress and anxiety. Many times I find myself picking at my lips until they are bleeding, causing them to be in very bad shape.

I’ve tried other lip balms and none of them heal my lips as well or as fast as your product. Your lip balm has made my coping with my OCD much easier and I thank you for providing us such an outstanding product. Here are photos from day 1, 3, 5, and 7 which is after several days of use. Keep up the good work!

Katie’s Story: How CortiBalm Saved my Eyes

Thanks to our friend Katie M. in Chicago, Illinois for allowing us to share her story:

Dear Dr. Dan,

I have long suffered from pet allergies. This past winter the allergies went from bad to worse. One of my eyes, for some unknown reason, had begun to water CONSTANTLY, causing me to rub and wipe my eye all day long. My makeup would run and I was frustrated with the irritation. Eventually, the top and bottom eyelid developed severe dry patches that were incredibly unsightly. Trying to combat this, I used tweezers to peel off the flakes of skin and I was applying and re-applying moisturizer about every hour or so (had to keep redoing it as my eye was still watering like crazy). Additionally, I was popping antihistamines daily.

This went on for about 2 months. I tried every type of moisturizing product I could get my hands on, but the patches got worse and my eyelids were now swelling up. The bottom eyelid felt hardened and scarred due to the beating it took. No amount of concealer could hide the hideousness! I had to stop wearing makeup altogether, and walk around looking and feeling ugly and ashamed of my appearance. I even avoided going out with my friends and doing other social activities.

One day, I asked my boyfriend’s roommate (who is studying to become an aesthetician) her opinion on what was up with my eyelids and what else I could try to fix it. She gave me a small sample of your CortiBalm™ to try. I did not think much of it, honestly. I didn’t think a cure was possible! I put it on and went to sleep. The next morning, I saw a HUGE improvement! The swelling had gone way down! Over the next couple of days I continued to use the balm and now my eyelid is almost back to normal. And, somehow, my eye has also stopped watering! I know that in a day or two I’ll be looking like my old self again. THANK YOU SO MUCH for saving me from this awful experience!! I’ll be purchasing some of that balm ASAP so that I know I’ll have the remedy for any future skin issues.
